A special place in the community...

I would like to share my writing sample. This writing sample was all about the marae, what it is used for and how it can help the community. The straining thing that I found with my writing was, elaborating my ideas. My final score was 36. That means that I am a 5B, by the end of Year 9. I understood how to structure my writing appropriately, and also how to use a range of language features, such as understanding what the writer is talking about.

A Special Place In The Community - Marae

Introduction

A special place in the community is the marae. Celebrations are where you can commemorate birthdays, whanau reunions, weddings and much more. The marae is the heart of the maori community.  Our whanau connections are from our tupuna. It provides a place for people that don’t have homes. It is also a good place for arts and cultures. Waiata can be performed while there is a Tangighanga. A tangi is a sad and unforgetting place to be. Tangihanga is a time to say your goodbyes to your loved ones.

Celebrations

Celebrations are things that explain your identity, culture and heritage. Celebrations are when you commemorate a birthday. Celebrations are brought to your attention like nothing. Celebrations include lollies, food, games, music and more fun. They are also known for  whanau reunions, weddings and the best thing is Matariki. Celebrations bring your families back together. A celebration is a time to enjoy with your family. Celebrations are the best place to be.

Tangihanga
The marae. What is so important about the marae?, It’s obviously tangihanga. Tangihanga is a sad and unforgettable place to approach. When you enter a marae, it is rude to walk in while the kaumatua are speaking also eating or drinking inside the marae. It is also important not to sit on the pillows while there is a Tangihanga. Tangihanga is the time to say your goodbyes to your loved ones. When your at a Tangi, the kaumatua will speak, and then you will have the privilege to speak, and then sing a waiata.

Arts and culture
Arts and culture can be performed while there is a tangihanga. Arts and culture can help you through your Te Reo Maori assignments. When you walk into a marae, and you see carvings on the walls, that's called arts and culture. You can learn a lot from them. Arts and culture involve singing and dancing too. Usually the kaikaranga will sing a waiata after your kaumatua will speak. The talents of arts and culture is waiata. Everyone has a talent for singing. Arts and culture also explains who you are, where you come from and who your great great grandparents are.

Conclusions
To sum it all up, a special place in the community is our marae. It’s for you and your family to commemorate birthdays, whanau reunions, weddings and much more. A marae is also a special place for tangihanga. It is a time to say your goodbyes to all your loved ones. It is also great for arts and cultures. Arts and cultures could also be performed while there is a tangihanga. Arts and culture explain where you from who your and and who you grandparents are.

Narrative Writing.

What is on the other side of the bridge?
The moonlight shone, the shadows of the trees occurred, as I was walking across the bridge. Crack Bang!
Trees came falling towards me. I dodged the trees, as the bridge was cracking, and the water was rising. I ran back.
I was getting really nervous about what was going to happen next. I was nearly on the other side, I shattered into pieces,
as I was arriving on it. I could hardly move, as the bridge kept breaking. I continued to walk alongside of  the waterline.
I started to get spooked out, of the things that were happening to me.

Soccer Tournament.

The day had come for the amazing Soccer Tournament. “YAY!” I screamed. We waited a bit for the bus to turn up. When it got here I screamed, and I started getting butterflies in my stomach. When we turned up at the fields, none of the schools were there, only Christian School.  I couldn’t wait to vs Te Kura o Waima.

My eyes opened wide and wider, while I was seeking all the schools, to find where my cousin was. We had 4 games, won them all, and made it into the finals. We lost the finals because we were all leaving and the girl kicked it into the goal, and the Ref counted it.

At the end of the day, I just wanted to make sure that everyone had a fun day, because I did. Heaps of our team members, slipped over, but we all got back up, and started playing again. My legs were so naked, after our big game we finished. Heaps of the other teams, were kicking our legs, so that was another thing that was sore.

Te Kupu 'Ahea'

Here is my Te Reo for this week. We haven't had the chance to do Te Reo, because our Te Reo teacher was away for a bit. But I have managed to get it done and up on my blog. I have made a presentation and added my video on it. Here it is.

ReadTheory.

Here is my reading post. I have two photo's, one of my story and one of my questions. The book that I'm reading is No Driver? It's about a Google Car. It's not fast. It's not big. It's definitely not flashy. But it does do something pretty cool: It drives itself.

Yes Ikan!.

Here is a presentation of our Math Quiz that we had to do today. In this presentation, some of the answers, you have to click on the photos. The hard thing for today was, inserting 10 questions, and photos of all kinds. The easy thing was publishing it on my blog.

Toku Kuia.

This is my Te Reo Maori, that I have done for this week. I have learn't that, when you go on Maori Dictionary, you can change it to, Te Reo or English. The thing that I like about Te Reo is, that I get to understand what people are saying, like everyday simple sentences.

Nene Spelling Words.

These are our spelling words for this week. I am in the top group. Our group is Nene. I smashed these words out. I aced them and got 20/20. For me, the words were a bit too easy for me. Next week, I hope that I get 20/20 again. Here is a snapshot of my spelling words.

2nd comment of the week!.

Hello, here is another comment that I accomplished. My comment is based around a coloured star. I have commented on Huhana's coloured star. She might not need to work on heaps, but she does need to work on some things. Here is a photo of my finished comment.

Punctuating these stories.

TASK 1:
I click my fingers”, the deep scratchy voice says and everyone around us
dies.” I struggle to focus on the dark imposing figure before me.
Behind theres a crater of shattered paving, as though it has crashed
down on earth from the sky. Concrete dust coats it’s black fully-body armour,
which shimmers slightly as though in a heat haze the face is completely
masked even the eyes and mouth are hidden behind wire mesh the only
chinks in the sleek metal facade The whole being vibrates like its not
completely solid A shiver runs down my spine.

TASK 2:
Once upon a time there was a poor widow who had an only son named Jack,
and a cow named Milky White. And all they had to live on was the milk.
The milk the cow gave every morning, which they carried to the market,
and sold. But one morning Milky White gave no milk, and they didn’t know
what to do.

What shall we do?” What shall we do?'' the widow wringing her hands.

Cheer up mother ill go and get work somewhere,” said Jack.

Weve tried that before, and nobody would take you said the mother.
We must sell Milky White, and with the money start a shop.

All right mother said Jack. Its market day today, and ill soon sell
Milky White and then we'll see what we can do. So he took the cows
halter in his hand and off he started. He hadn't gone far, when he met a funny old looking man.

Oh you look the proper sort of chap to sell cows said the man,
I wonder if you know how many beans make five.

Two in each hand and one in your mouth said Jack as sharp as a needle.

And here they are, the very beans themselves. He went on pulling
out of his pocket a number of strange looking beans. I dont mind
doing the swap with you. Your cow for these beans he said.

Baseball: Fun or Boring?

This week I am reading Baseball: Fun or Boring. My reading grade is 4. Here are 2 photos of my story that i'm reading, and my questions that I have answered. Baseball is the best sport (NOT)!.

Percent Benchamrks.

WALT: Find a percentage of a whole number using a benchmark like 10%. This morning I have worked on a Math D.L.O. My struggles with this was working out how to solve the problems, but eventually I had the courage and support from our teacher. Here is a D.L.O and a screencastify that I have managed to finish in the perfect amount of time.

BeFunky💞

Today is a new day. We were experimenting a new site called.... BeFunky. BeFunky, is like a new editing site. You can edit your photos, and heaps more. I have created an image on BeFunky. This photo is based on Nga Manu Korero. I have made a collage, from Nga Manu Korero, and these photos represent, the Haka Powhiri. The photos at the top, are the ones that I used to make this collage (on BeFunky), and the photo down the bottom, is the collage, that I made. Nga Manu Korero is like a speech competition. I saw loads of my whanau enter that competition. Nga Manu Korero was hosted at Northland College. You may like to try BeFunky.
